It may appear daunting to attempt to replicate the looks of magazine king-size beds. Though a professionally made master bed is aesthetically pleasing, the daily ritual of making it can be a pain.

When one has a million pillows, comforters, quilts, coverlets, and blankets, there's really no reason to. Some of the people I look up to in the design world have even admitted to me that they don't always make their bed.

Believe it or not, a stylish master bedroom doesn't require a zillion pillows and blankets. And in the next 7 minutes, I'll show you how to make a king-sized bed look amazing.

Please take note that the same decorating rules apply to a Queen-size bed.

(1) APPROPRIATE SIZE

Sheet sets typically consist of a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and a pair of pillowcases.

In my capacity as an Amazon Associate, I receive a commission on certain product purchases. You'll incur no additional fees as a result of this. *

Get a sheet set that fits your mattress perfectly. You don't want it to be too large, as this can cause your bed to look unkempt.

The sheets shouldn't be so loose that they slide off the mattress, but they shouldn't be too tight either.

It is important to purchase a sheet set that completely encases your mattress because modern mattresses are made to be very deep.

Be sure to get the right size mattress and pillows by checking their dimensions. King and Queen sizes are not universally applicable.

It's fine to have the cover go past the edges of the pillow if that's the aesthetic you're going for.

Take It Vertically

So let's get into the meat of this tutorial and start styling. King-size bed styling requires a solid foundation.

As a first step, rather than piling your standard pillows on top of one another, you should lay them out vertically and face-to-face.

It's a great way to give your bed a new lease on life and a more refined appearance. Pillows stacked vertically help bring the foreground objects into focus. In a positive way, because it allows for more room on your bed.

The fewer cushions and coverings you need, the more space you'll have for actual sleeping, right? We're just making "layers" out of our basic bed linens.

Make sure the top sheet is folded over your standard pillows.

Less is More; 3

Throw in some throw pillows for good measure now. Have no fear, I shall explain everything in the simplest terms.

Rather than piling on a dozen tiny pillows, invest in three LARGE ones. BIGGER means FEWER in terms of quantity.

On my king-sized bed, I have three 26-inch-long pillows. It would take three 24" accent pillows to outfit a Queen bed.

Large throw pillows look better on a king-size bed, and they take up less space in the linen closet at night. This is especially true if you, like me, have a very high headboard.

SECOND LAYER WITH LUMBAR PILLOW

Okay… Hence, the three pillows are sufficient. You can make it look even more stylish by placing an additional pillow in front.

Plus, don't worry, I'll show you a quick and simple way to stow them all away before bedtime.

To finish off the look, we've included this LONG lumbar pillow.

5. Tuck in your blanket

Comforters and blankets are staples in a professional decorator's or designer's arsenal. Who, after all, has a use for each of those

When you make your bed, fold the quilt or comforter you already have instead of piling on more.

Expert advice: choose a comforter that is too big to fold without leaving a huge gap on your bed.

This duvet cover also came with a very large duvet comforter insert for me.

An oversize blanket can be folded into two simple shapes and used in two distinct ways.

Towards the top, you can fold it in half so that it rests beneath the stacked pillows.

Another option is to simply spread the bottom half of the comforter over my bed.

Since we are not adding too many layers, it is crucial that your comforter has a full appearance, and folding it is the best way to achieve this.

In contrast to the large, beautifully layered pillows, a flat, frumpy quilt is not what you're going for.

Cover with a Single Blanket, Step 6

Even though "less is more" when it comes to decorating your king-size bed, you still need to add a few layers to achieve a polished appearance.

Simply throw ONE blanket on top of your comforter. An article of bedding, such as a quilt, coverlet, or throw. It must, however, be sufficiently long to drape off both sides of the bed.

I purchased this lovely coverlet from Target's Hearth & Hand collection, and it looks amazing spread out over the bed's comforter.

Find Appropriate Space for Storage

All right, so we only needed four pillows and one blanket to dress up our King-size bed.

It's a cinch to make this bed every morning. Because I have perfected a specific method, I can complete this task in no more than two minutes.

However, storing away any unnecessary throw blankets and pillows is essential for a successful completion of the task. Is there a specific procedure I should follow? Assuming you have sufficient space for

This 21-inch-long basket from Marshalls made it easy for me to store my three extra pillows. They sell a wide variety of large baskets at cheap prices.

I know what you're thinking: There's no way a pillow measuring 26 inches will fit in a basket measuring just 21 inches.

Just keep in mind that you can easily alter a pillow's form. That's where this humongous decorative pillow slides in If I have three, I stack the other two on top so they don't get squashed and lose their form.

I also purchased a stunning blue bench on which to rest my extra-long lumbar pillow and cozy blanket. All the other stuff on the bed is what we use to sleep with, so there's no point in putting it away.

In less than a minute, I will be all set for bed. Really, that was so simple!
